From the recording America the Brutal
Since Donald Trump became president the 2nd time, a haunting version of America the Beautiful has been stuck in my head. I started singing different words about the atrocities that our nation has committed and it was a wonderful release of all the heartbreak and rage that this administration has caused. I hope you will find some comfort in it as well!
Lyrics
Oh beautiful for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountains majesty
Above thy fruited plains
America, America you're home to all I've known
How could it be land of the free
When we praise bigotry
Turn back time, look see you'll find
Those with your same last name
Tired, poor from months ashore
AND THEY WEREN'T TURNED AWAY
America, America your promises were for all
Corrupted few with cheap values
Have bought your morals too
The richest names built their wealth
On backs of a kidnapped race
Torn violently from all they'd known
And still we're there today
When bullies with a badge and gun
Who should protect and serve
Get trigger happy when no threat to see
The black man still can't breathe
America, America so much blood shed on thee
When did we fall
Did we ever have it all
The land of hypocrisy
